Slip Sheet: Pallet Less Concept

  Slip sheets are thin pallet-sized sheets made of plastic, heavy laminated craft paperboard, Metal or corrugated fiberboard used in commercial shipping. Slip sheets are cheap, cost effective and environment friendly alternative to traditional pallets.
Pros & Cons Analysis on Slip Sheet
Pros:
1.    Using slip sheets instead of wooden pallets allows for 10-15% more storage space during transportation or in warehouse.
2.    Significant reduction in material handling costs, especially air shipments.
3.    Weighs 1/30 as much as wooden pallets, reducing shipping costs.
4.    Eliminates the need for pallet exchange.
5.    Can be customized to fit any size load.
6.    Slip sheets do not require maintenance, but can easily be replaced.

Cons:
1.    Doesn’t provide clearance between the floor and the unit load.
2.    Slip sheets are not easily compatible with cranes, forklifts and hand-jacks. They require special attachments on forklifts for handling.
3.    Storage in the warehouse on a slip sheet requires racks with decking.
4.    Increases loading/unloading time by up to 60% compare to pallet.
